SJAKKMATT Chess set
Task: Design a complete chess set, with pieces planned for aluminum extrusion and 3D-printed for simulation, focusing on design and material use, and creativity.
End result: Designed for families who appreciate a colorful and playful aesthetic, featuring 32 geometrically shaped pieces, a chessboard, and a fabric pouch with a chess pattern. This design ensures portability, while also serving as a stationary game and decorative element in the home, integrating functionality with visual appeal.
After reviewing three concepts, the decision to pursue the "building blocks" theme, featuring a chess set and a fabric pouch, directed our design approach. Realizing that modifying the chess pieces was superfluous, we focused on their inherent design, aiming for versatility in both home and travel contexts. The outcome is a geometric, minimalist chess set with a playful touch, clean lines, and a casual look. Vibrant, contrasting colors enhance its visual appeal and style, while the distinct geometric shapes of the pieces are designed for easy recognition and functionality.
